About the Community and Business Women's Network
Our mission is to cultivate an environment where local women are able to network with confidence and equality, to be enriched through learning, to prosper through connection and friendships and to give back to our Central Coast community through the "Because We Care" Wyong Neighbourhood Centre project.
About the "Because We Care" Project
Our partnership with Share the Dignity gives women in our community experiencing disadvantage access to sanitary items.
We know from our female clients with lived experience of homelessness, financial crisis, domestic violence, entrenched disadvantage, or a combination of, that they experience additional issues associated with “that time of the month.”
Limited access to resources means that many women have to choose between food and sanitary items, and in some cases, some feel that stealing them is their only option.
This issue is largely ignored because society generally continues to find discussing this issue ‘distasteful’. For the women that experience the issue the additional complications can affect well-being and quality of life.
For young girls, it can mean the difference between attending school, or skipping another week.
In 2015 – 2016, more than 100 women accessed our service to make use of this amazing partnership program.
Here is what one woman, a parent of 3 teenage girls, had to say about her experience:
“There are no words to tell you how grateful I am.. I cant even explain how hard it is with 3 teenage girls and me and never enough money to buy pads and stuff for us all.. I mean, think about it right, we have four times the cost, every month! I always try and make sure the girls are right and sometimes I just make do. Not like I got a choice.
